This AWESOME Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was featured at the Barrel Auction in 2011 as LOT 284. highest bid went for $1,400.00 a case.
For our Reserve Program we pull out individual barrels that are worthy of Reserve status. Reserve is the best barrel of any of our lots. Each lot is a different vineyard, different clone and different soils and appellations within Napa Valley. I love to layer flavors of the different varietals along with either Hungarian Oak or French Oak aged barrels. Each of these oaks give us very subtle nuances such as Vanilla and toast for French and Toast with Spice, (think Cinnamon, Nutmeg). The Cabernet for this wine is from three distinct vineyards. Howell Mountain, Yountville and Coombsville. Each location, soil and clone of Cabernet Sauvignon are different. This comprises 89% of the blend. We aged this wine in barrel for three years to help it express itself fully. We have 6% Cabernet Franc. This varietal is the key to the nose on this wine and the refreshing quality and balance. The Cabernet Franc is from Oak Knoll region of Napa Valley.The 5% Merlot is from two vineyards in Napa Valley. Carneros and Oak Knoll. I love this varietal because it pulls together the Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with a rich, smooth backbone that results in an elegant balanced beautiful wine. ~Barb Spelletich~
